PhD Candidate - Tübingen University

The laboratory of Translational Oncology in the Department of Oncology, Hematology and Immunology at Medical Hospital, Tübingen University invites application for a

PhD candidate position in Biology / Immunology / Hematology (w/m)

The position will be available from October 2018 or as soon as possible. In agreement with current regulations, the position is on the TV-L (E13) for public employees and is limited for three years.

Our research group is particularly interested in studying key molecular events in T-cell development and leukemogenesis. Our studies also focus on chemokines and cytokines and their roles on cell trafficking and differentiation in hematological disorders. We use zebrafish as in vivo model system and for xenotransplantation of human leukemic cells to perform drug screening.

Your tasks: The PhD candidate will implement state-of-the-art techniques (in vitro and in vivo models) to understand mechanisms controlling T-cell development and T-cell Leukemogenesis.

Your profile: The ideal candidate should hold a diploma or master’s degree in biology, or related fields. The candidate should be a highly motivated, organized, reliable team player that can also work independently in a multidisciplinary research group. Previous experience with molecular and cell biology techniques is essential. Knowledge of hematology and working with zebrafish are considered beneficial.

We offer an excellent scientific environment for conducting multidisciplinary research. The student will receive a thorough education in cell and molecular biology, zebrafish husbandry, development of state-of-the-art fluorescent-based reporters, confocal microscopy, xenotransplantation assays, drug screening and handling of large 4D image datasets. The University of Tübingen also provides structured support for students to establish a successful scientific career.

Deadline for application is 15th September 2018.

To apply, please e-mail a single pdf file that contains 1) letter of motivation that describes your research interests and experience, 2) detailed curriculum vitae, and 3) the names of at least two academic references, including their contact information to Dr Baubak Bajoghli (baubak.bajoghli@med.uni-tuebingen.de)
