Zebrafish laboratory technician – EPFL - Lausanne, Switzerland

Your mission:

  

The Center of PhenoGenomics (CPG) is specialised in animal experimentation. It contributes to the research excellence by supporting the scientific community through tailored services and by ensuring the highest animal welfare standards in compliance with laws and ethics. To strengthen its team the CPG is looking for a highly motivated and organized lab technician to support a wide range of research projects involving zebrafish development. 

  

Main duties and responsibilities:

  

Tasks may include (depending on the project needs): 

  • Colony management and zebrafish husbandry (breeding, genotyping...).

  • Generation of genetically modified animals by zygotic injection.

  • Embryology techniques such as in situ hybridization, immunohistochemistry, cell transplantation, micro-injection of mRNA, etc.

  • Cryo-preservation and in vitro fertilization of transgenic lines.

  • Microscopy experiments (widefield, confocal, SPIM).

  • Training of Ph.D. students, post-doctoral researchers, technical staff, etc.

  • Participate to the smooth running of the facility: monitoring and maintenance of the CLS (Central Life Support) and all its components, maintenance of scientific equipment, weekend duties (once every two months), etc.

  

  

Your profile:

  

  • Bachelor or master degree in biology or a related field of life sciences.

  • Previous experience with zebrafish research and embryo manipulation is essential.

  • Hands on experience in molecular biology (PCR, cloning, in vitro transcription...) and microscopy techniques is desirable but not essential. 

  • Good ability to organise and prioritise tasks.

  • Team worker with good communication skills.

  • Fluency in English is essential, French is a plus.
