Mitochondrial Medicine at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) is emerging as the premiere center in the world for multidisciplinary clinical care, advanced diagnostics and therapies, and individualized basic, translational, and clinical research programs dedicated to improving the health of patients of all ages living with mitochondrial disease. The program is part of the Division of Human Genetics.
Mitochondrial Medicine is designated a Frontier Program by CHOP. Frontier Programs are unique, cutting-edge programs that will forge important new discoveries, deliver novel therapies, and help even more children and adults thrive.
Under the direction/guidance of a mentor (principal investigator), assume responsibility for a specific, on-going research project. The postdoc experience will serve to extend, refine and enhance skills necessary for professional and career development, and will enable the individual to broaden his/her scientific background by acquiring new research capabilities. It is expected that this individual will conduct independent scholarly research, and will contribute directly to the overall research goals of the project and the research group. Postdocs will be expected to participate in project planning, recording and interpretation/evaluation of data, and communication of results. Postdocs will also be expected to acquire technical, lab management, and manuscript/grant writing skills; and participate in seminars, lectures, poster sessions and presentations at national meetings. Postdoctoral fellows also may be required to supervise junior lab members, develop new methods and protocols for research, and assist with the development of other research projects in the lab.
Dr. Marni Falk’s research laboratory at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Research Institute was established in 2006 and is focused in researching the mechanisms underlying disease, and potential novel therapies, for mitochondrial respiratory chain diseases. The laboratory primarily uses human cell, C. elegans (worm) and zebrafish small animal models, and occasionally mouse models for these purposes.
We have a position open immediately for a research technician to join the group to investigate the therapeutic mechanisms of primary mitochondrial disease through whole-animal behavioral phenotyping and mitochondrial physiology studies, as well as assisting in the evaluation of the efficacy and toxicity of pharmacologic agents in both cell and animal models of primary mitochondrial respiratory chain diseases. This work involves analyses of candidate therapies and high-throughput drug screening, with both academic and pharma partners.

Required Education and Experience
A terminal degree PhD, MD, DVM, etc.
According to the CMS (Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services) a copy of diploma or transcript is required as proof of academic achievement for all non-laboratory personnel performing non-waived POC testing
