Laboratory/Aquatics Technician at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland

A laboratory/aquatics technician is sought for a zebrafish research laboratory at the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) at the NIH.  The successful applicant will work with researchers in the laboratory of Dr. Brant Weinstein in the NICHD Division of Developmental Biology (DDB) in Bethesda, Maryland.  The Weinstein laboratory uses a variety of molecular, cellular, genetic, transgenic, microscopic imaging, and next-gen sequencing approaches to study the specification, patterning, and differentiation of developing blood and lymphatic vessels, the meninges and the neurovascular interface, and developmental epigenetics.  To learn more about the Weinstein laboratory see https://www.nichd.nih.gov/research/atNICHD/Investigators/weinstein  

Qualifications:

Applicants must possess a B.S. in Biological Sciences and 3 years experience in a laboratory research environment including basic molecular biology tasks. Aquatic species experience in a research setting is desirable.

Description:

Provide technical research services, working in partnership with research staff members in their conduct of biomedical research.  Provide basic molecular biology assistance including tasks such as bacterial culture and transformation, DNA purification, PCR, gel electrophoresis, RNA extraction, reverse transcription, in situ hybridization, antibody staining, SDS-page gel running, and Western blotting.  Also provide some general husbandry and management support for a zebrafish research colony, as well as more specialized support such as in vitro fertilization, fin clipping, and microinjection of zebrafish eggs.
