Postdoctoral Research Associate, Knight Group, King's College London

A 3 year research associate post is available to work in the Knight group at King's College London to investigate how ageing affects muscle stem cell function. This an exciting opportunity to explore the impact of ageing on muscle regeneration and to identify potential modifiers of this process using zebrafish as an in vivo ageing model.

Using zebrafish telomerase mutants as an animal model of ageing the project aims to identify novel age-related molecular signatures that are correlated with ineffective muscle stem cell responses to injury. Live cell imaging, transcriptomics and computational modelling will be employed to identify candidate age-dependent modifiers of stem cell function. Candidate genes will be tested by pharmacological and genetic manipulations to identify those that contribute to age-related declines in muscle regeneration.

The post holder will have a PhD and experience of working with zebrafish, performing live cell imaging and analysing gene function. Ideally they will also have experience of using computer languages to analyse gene expression datasets and imaging data.

The Knight group are based at the Guy's campus in the heart of London. On site there is access to state-of-the-art microscopy resources, the Biomedical Research Centre genomics and flow cytometry facilities, a well equipped and supported zebrafish facility and the Genome Editing and Embryology Core. Together with a large and dynamic zebrafish community and a large concentration of biomedical research the project offers great opportunities for developing new approaches to understand ageing.
