Animal Care Technician@ Max Planck Institute for Neurobiology of Behavior – caesar, Bonn, Germany

The Max Planck Institute for the Neurobiology of Behavior - caesar (MPINB) in Bonn conducts basic research in the field of neuroethology. The international team of researchers investigates how the collective activity of multiple neurons gives rise to the plethora of animal behaviors. The interdisciplinary research spans a large rangeof scalesfrom imaging neuronal circuits at the nanoscale to analyzing neuronal activity in a freely moving and naturally behaving animal.

To join our animal facility team, we are looking for an animal care technician to support our efforts. We would be especially interested in applicants with prior experience with aquatic animals (fish and/or frogs).

Your tasks

You are responsible for the routine care (breeding, holding and provisioning) of all laboratory animals (fish, frogs, mice, rats, molerats, incl. genetically modified animals) in our animal facility. Furthermore, you will ensure species-appropriate handling, training and care of the laboratory animals as well as monitoring and documentation of the animals' condition and behavior. You will assist in the breeding, health monitoring and treatment of the laboratory animals, as well as in experimental projects on animals. You will also be responsible for maintaining and cleaning the cages/aquariums and animal rooms, as well as documenting your activities.

Your profile

You have successfully completed vocational training as an animal keeper in research and clinics or have comparable qualifications and bring at least basic experimental animal care experience, preferably with several species (e.g. fish, frogs, rodents). Initial experience with and interest in aquatic animal husbandry is highly welcome. You have a good command of written and spoken German, as well as a basic knowledge of English and have already worked with MS Office programs and ideally also with specific colony management software, e.g. "Mausoleum" or "PyRAT". Your willingness to work occasional weekends and holidays is expected. In addition, you are team-oriented, reliable in your daily work and have a strong sense of responsibility towards the animals entrusted to you. Please understand that you are not allowed to keep rodents, fish or frogs privately.

Our offer:

Working in a dedicated team in an exciting scientific environment and a quite diverse animal husbandry unit with several different species, we consider this anattractive workplace that also offers you the opportunity for further education.
