Scientist - Quantitative Developmental Biology (Jacobo Group), Chan Zuckerberg Biohub, San Francisco, CA

The Jacobo Group is building an interdisciplinary team of researchers with experience in biology, physics, computer science, and microscopy. We are looking for a PhD level scientist to join us and be an integral part of this effort. Our group wants to study, at a quantitative level, how cell-cell communication leads to the formation of organs in a self-organizing process. To do so we will use zebrafish as a model system and combine cutting-edge live microscopy, gene editing techniques, deep-learning-based data analysis, and mathematical modeling. To this aim, we are looking for a candidate with experience in zebrafish transgenesis.

Outcomes

  • The candidate will work independently to research, design, and perform experiments related to their area of research within the larger project goals

  • They will provide regular internal presentations to summarize their work and actively contribute ideas related to their work and the work of others in the group

  • The successful candidates will also author manuscripts related to their research advances and present their research at relevant external conferences and meetings

  • Candidates will also have opportunities to partner with and mentor junior scientists

About the Chan Zuckerberg Biohub

The Chan Zuckerberg Biohub (https://www.czbiohub.org) is a one-of-a-kind independent nonprofit research institute that brings together three powerhouse universities—Stanford, UC Berkeley, and UC San Francisco—into a single collaborative technology and discovery engine. CZ Biohub itself supports some of the brightest, boldest engineers, data scientists, and biomedical researchers to make breakthroughs in medicine and develop new technologies, frequently in collaboration with our partner universities. We are guided by our values of scholarly excellence; disruptive innovation; hands-on engineering/hacking/building; partnership and collaboration; open communication and respect; inclusiveness; and opportunity for all.

What We Provide

  • Resources to disrupt and innovate at the frontiers of our knowledge of biology and disease

  • A collegial and collaborative environment consisting of diverse expertise

  • Existing collaborations within CZ Biohub: Technology Platforms (Bioengineering, Computational Microscopy, Data Science, Genomic Sequencing, Mass Spectrometry/Proteomics), Infectious Diseases, and Quantitative Cell Science

  • Access to collaborators, resources, and facilities at our three partner universities (Stanford, UC Berkeley, and UC San Francisco) and at partner organizations in the Bay Area and beyond

  • Competitive compensation and benefits commensurate with the experience

Requirements

Essential

  • Ph.D. in Biology, Physics, or related field

  • Experience in zebrafish work, including zebrafish transgenesis

  • Must be a dedicated team player who can also work independently
