Research Technician, Molofsky Lab, University of California, San Francisco, San Francisco, CA

The Molofsky lab at University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) is seeking a motivated candidate for a full-time research zebrafish technician. This research technician position will work with two zebrafish postdocs and the PI on a funded research project investigating brain immune cells (microglia) during brain development. The Molofsky lab uses a combination of live imaging, transgenic reporters, and CRISPR mutants to investigate the mechanisms by which microglia remodel the brain during development. The applicant will be able to run their own research project.

 

Responsibilities Include:

·       Zebrafish screening and genotyping.

·       Maintain zebrafish stock by breeding propagating lines.

·       Prepare lab reagents and stock solution supplies.

·       Generate Tol2 based constructs.

·       Inject constructs to generate new transgenic and mutant zebrafish lines.

·       Providing routine care and husbandry of zebrafish including feeding, water exchanges, cleaning, and

health monitoring.

 

Other expectations:

·       Attend and participate in lab meeting.

·       Keep great experiment notes and records.

·       Self-motivation, excellent communication and organizational skills, and the ability to work closely with

other team members.

 

Requirements:

·       Zebrafish experience.

·       Bachelor’s degree in any of the life sciences.

·       Basic molecular biology experience (NOT required but preferred).

·       Basic computer skills and a working knowledge of computer programs including Microsoft Outlook,

Excel, and Word.

·       1–2-year minimum commitment for position.
