Closing date: 15th September 2022

A Research Technician position is available in the research group of Professor Tanya Whitfield (www.sheffield.ac.uk/biosciences/people/academic-staff/tanya-whitfield).

The overall aim of the Whitfield lab research programme is to use genetic, molecular and cellular approaches to understand the development and function of the vertebrate inner ear, the organ of hearing and balance. Specifically, this post will provide technical support and assistance for a Wellcome-Trust-funded project on the development of the semi-circular canal system, using the zebrafish as a model system. The work will involve routine laboratory support together with the opportunity to contribute to one or more specific research projects. In addition, the successful candidate will help to provide support and supervision for undergraduate and Masters-level project students in the lab. The post demands a flexible attitude and an ability to respond positively to the challenges faced in the research environment.

Applicants must hold a good honours degree or equivalent in a related biological discipline or equivalent experience, along with enthusiasm and interest in developmental biology and genetics. Experience in molecular biology, including subcloning, sequence analysis and genomics, is essential. In addition, you will be motivated and committed to contributing to scientific research. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with other members of the research team are essential.
