Engineer, Zebrafish Genome Editing, IMAGINE Institute, Paris, France

Engineer position in the IMAGINE Institute, Paris, France: zebrafish genome editing

Advances in sequencing technologies and generalization of their use in genetic diagnosis has dramatically increased the rate of identification of new candidate variants for rare genetic diseases. Validating the implication of these variants in disease, and understanding the pathological mechanisms involved, represent the next challenges in the field. In particular, the impact of missense variants is hard to predict, and requires the generation of specific models for investigation. In recent years, zebrafish have emerged as a powerful model to investigate human genetic diseases. The development of directed mutagenesis using CRISPR/Cas9 technologies has increased further the value of the zebrafish model. Within the Imagine Institute, we are initiating a collaborative project between five teams, working in synergy to test and optimize different techniques for precise genome editing in zebrafish. Within the frame of this project, we are recruiting an engineer to participate in the implementation of these approaches (2 years-contract).

Description of duties

  • Design strategies for genome editing, together with consortium researchers

  • Perform regular surveys of the literature in the field of genome editing

  • Test and optimize the efficiency of editing with different approaches in zebrafish

  • Establish new edited zebrafish lines (injections, screening, genotyping)

  • Maintain and manage generated lines in the animal facility

  • Write and share validated protocols

  • Present results during internal meetings and in external meetings/workshops

  • Ordering and managing the stocks of consumables for the project

Education/Experience

  • The candidate should have a Master degree in molecular biology, genetics or any related field

  • Excellent technical skills in molecular biology (PCR, cloning, sequence analysis)

  • Prior experience with the zebrafish model is highly preferred

  • Good knowledge of the English language

Skills

  • Dynamism and enthusiasm for developing, optimizing and troubleshooting new techniques

  • Excellent organization and time-management skills

  • Scientific rigor

  • Team worker with good communication skills.
