The Zebrafish Core Facilities (Z-Core) has an immediate opening for a full-time facility technician. The Z-Core supports multiple biomedical research laboratories by providing aquaculture services for six facilities that collectively house over 14,000 tanks.

Specific work responsibilities for this position include:
Provide daily fish feedings and general husbandry requirements to research colonies.
Record daily water parameters and review for abnormal readings.
Perform daily fish health checks.
Handle basic needs of the facility during weekends.
Change aquaculture system filters.
Cleaning, maintenance, and organization of tanks and aquaculture components.
Assist facility management in resolving any problems in facility operation.
Transfer embryos from incubators and provide care to nursery racks.
Support facility sanitation protocols.
Care for Artemia cultures.
Assist facility researchers when needed.
Participate in bi-weekly staff meetings.
Contribute ideas on facility improvements regarding equipment, procedures, and techniques.
Assist with supervising and training student workers or new technicians.
Help to troubleshoot and repair critical life support equipment.
Perform technical techniques such as sperm cryopreservation, invitro fertilization, and microinjections.
Work generally requires a bachelor's degree in botany, biology, zoology, psychology or other directly related scientific field.
None required above education/training requirement. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE. A basic understanding of aquaculture equipment and maintenance, fish health and husbandry, and water chemistry is desirable.
