Position: Staff Scientist or Postdoctoral Researcher to pursue functional characterization of genetic variants

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Ph.D. scientist to join the Greenwood Genetic Center (GGC) within our Research Division as a Postdoctoral Researcher or Staff Scientist (depending on prior experience). The selected candidate will play a central role in our ongoing functional characterization of genetic variants through the Center’s new Genomic Discovery Program, and will perform studies that contribute to the development and optimization of cellular therapies under our new Alzheimer’s Initiative. The successful candidate will work in collaboration with our Research team and be responsible for utilizing both zebrafish and cell models in their research.

Collaborate with the Research team to resolve variants of uncertain significance identified using advanced functional studies in cells and zebrafish, with a focus on mitochondrial and metabolic genes/disorders.
Integrate into our new Genomic Discovery Program through the evaluation of uncertain genetic variants identified by genetic testing, and the design of appropriate experimental approaches.
Contribute to the maintenance of the aquaculture facility and the care of the zebrafish.
Utilize advanced laboratory techniques, including confocal microscopy and behavioral studies, to analyze in vivo impact of genetic variants in zebrafish models.
Record and analyze experimental data, generating comprehensive reports for presentation to the Research team.
Work in compliance with all applicable regulatory guidelines and safety protocols.
Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements and research findings in the field of medical genetics.
Mentor and train junior team members, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
Doctorate (PhD) in Molecular, Cell or Developmental Biology, or a related field of biology.
Proven experience working in a genetic system like zebrafish, with expertise in cell culture techniques and aseptic practices highly preferred.
Experience with confocal microscopy and other imaging methods highly preferred.
Proficiency in utilizing advanced laboratory techniques, such as protein biochemistry, microdissection, and molecular biology methods.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data sets.
Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
Effective communication and presentation abilities, with the capacity to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
