PhD and Postdoctoral Positions in Developmental Biology and Functional Genomics, Facchinello Lab, Department of Pharmacy and Biotechnology, University of Bologna, Bologna, Italy
Research Overview
The laboratory of Prof. Nicola Facchinello at the Department of Pharmacy and Biotechnology, University of Bologna (Italy) is seeking highly motivated PhD students and postdoctoral fellows to join an interdisciplinary team exploring the molecular and cellular mechanisms that govern tissue development, disease, and regeneration in vertebrate models. Our research integrates zebrafish developmental biology, genetic engineering, and in vivo imaging to study how cells interact with their microenvironment during development, tumor progression, and neurodevelopmental disorders. By combining functional genomics, live imaging, and molecular biology, we aim to uncover the principles of cell fate specification and tissue patterning across normal and pathological contexts.
Research Expertise and Training Environment
Our group employs a multidisciplinary approach that includes CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing, transgenic line generation, and high-resolution imaging to visualize developmental and disease processes in real time. We also perform functional assays, gene expression profiling, and phenotypic analyses to link molecular alterations to organismal outcomes. Joining our lab offers the opportunity to work in a collaborative, supportive, and international environment within one of Europe’s oldest and most research-active universities.
Candidate Qualifications
PhD applicants should hold an MSc degree in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Developmental Biology, Biotechnology, or a related discipline, with a strong academic record, motivation for discovery, and interest in developmental biology. Prior experience with genetic model organisms such as Danio rerio (zebrafish) is desirable. Proficiency in English, both written and spoken, is required. Postdoctoral applicants should hold a PhD in Developmental Biology, Molecular Genetics, Biotechnology, or a related field, with demonstrated expertise in CRISPR/Cas9-mediated gene targeting, RNA-seq, qRT-PCR, molecular biology, western blotting, histology, or behavioral assays. A record of scientific excellence, strong communication skills, and a collaborative attitude are essential.
