Description

The technical staff member will support research in Dr. Ali Seleit’s Emmy-Noether funded group and will be involved in experimental and molecular biology tasks, including:

Technical laboratory activities:

  • Fish husbandry: Collecting, screening, breeding, and maintaining Oryzias fish lines.

  • Molecular cloning: Constructing plasmids and libraries in microbial systems (E. coli, S. cerevisiae) for subsequent transgenesis in Oryzias fish.

  • Genomic analysis: Extracting DNA from embryos, preparing sequencing libraries, and performing quality control for whole-genome sequencing (WGS).

  • Single-cell genomics: Performing tissue dissociation, nuclei extraction, and library preparation for single-cell RNA sequencing (sci-RNA-seq).

  • Genotyping and screening: Conducting PCR-based genotyping and fluorescence-based screening of fish embryos.

  • Genome editing: Performing CRISPR/Cas9 microinjections at the 1-cell stage to generate mutants and knock-in lines.

  • In vitro fertilization (IVF): Carrying out IVF techniques in fish to produce genetic hybrids.

Laboratory Management, Training, and Supervision:

  • Onboarding and training: Supporting new group members in learning laboratory techniques, protocols, and safety practices.

  • Coordination: Organizing lab schedules, team meetings, cleaning rotations, and promoting best practices.

  • Laboratory operations: Managing general lab infrastructure, including instrument maintenance, ordering of consumables, inventory management, stock upkeep, and maintaining the lab calendar.

Requirements

We are looking for a motivated and skilled candidate who meets the following requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree from an accredited university or technical school, or equivalent laboratory experience in molecular biology or a related field.

  • Hands-on experience with standard molecular biology techniques (e.g., PCR, gel electrophoresis, sequencing).

  • Experience in molecular cloning methods (Gibson Assembly, Golden-Gate, restriction/ligation).

  • Independent, well-organized work style with an eagerness to learn new methods and protocols.

  • Ability to manage responsibilities across multiple collaborative projects.

  • Fluent spoken and written English.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with aquatic model systems.

  • Experience with sequencing library preparation (DNA/RNA).

  • Experience with in vitro fertilization (IVF) techniques in fish models.

What We Offer

A dynamic, collaborative, and interdisciplinary research environment. Opportunities to contribute to cutting-edge research in developmental genetics and vertebrate biology. Supportive mentorship and training in advanced molecular and genomic techniques.
