Postdoc position - Functional Genomics of Rare Diseases (Varshney Lab, OMRF)

We are seeking a motivated and independent postdoctoral researcher to join the Varshney Laboratory and contribute to our mission to bridge genetic discoveries and patient outcomes. Our lab develops zebrafish models to systematically validate candidate disease genes identified through genome-wide association studies and whole-exome sequencing. Using CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing, high-throughput phenotyping, and single-cell genomics, we investigate the functional consequences of human genetic variants, with particular emphasis on neurodevelopmental disorders and other rare genetic conditions. We work with clinical geneticists worldwide, giving us the chance to turn bench discoveries into clinical impact.

What You'll Do

  • Generate and characterize zebrafish disease models using CRISPR-based approaches

  • Develop and execute phenotyping assays relevant to human disease pathology

  • Apply emerging genomic technologies, including single-cell approaches

  • Collaborate with clinical partners to prioritize and interpret variant pathogenicity

What We're Looking For

  • PhD in biological sciences, genetics, molecular biology, developmental biology, or a related field

  • Hands-on experience with zebrafish husbandry and experimental techniques (required)

  • Strong background in molecular biology and genetics

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work both independently and collaboratively

  • Experience with CRISPR genome editing is a plus

About OMRF
