PI: Erica Davis, Ph.D. Website: https://www.luriechildrens.org/act-gem Postdoctoral Associate opportunities are available within the Advanced Center for Translational and Genetic Medicine (ACT-GeM) within the Stanley Manne Children’s Research Institute. The lab’s three-point vision is to:
understand the architecture of rare pediatric genetic disease,
investigate the cellular mechanisms underlying disease processes, and
identify novel therapeutic paradigms for inherited disorders.
Additionally, candidates will have the opportunity to investigate unique pediatric cohorts; use cell-based, zebrafish, or mouse models; and employ cutting-edge molecular and imaging technologies in a state-of-the-art facility (https://www.feinberg.northwestern.edu/sites/simpson-querrey/ ).
Job Description:
Work with research animals including mouse or zebrafish manipulation, and analyze data generated with such models
Carry out phenotypic and genotypic screening of mutant and transgenic lines.
Perform basic molecular biology manipulations such as DNA/RNA/protein purification and quantification, expression vector construction, morpholino injection and CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing.
Express mutant proteins in vitro to examine effects such as protein stability, cell/nuclear morphology and the cell cycle.
Perform embryo/cell imaging experiments including fixed and live-cell confocal microscopy.
Analyze human genetic variants for their effects on specific protein domains and cellular functions.
Interact with a team of trainees, technical staff, and faculty to optimize laboratory techniques and oversee the day-to-day management of multiple projects, performing advanced experimental design, optimization and interpretation.
Perform other duties as assigned, including assistance with posters, manuscripts and grant proposals.
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Ph.D. in a life sciences field. MD or DDS also acceptable.
Senior Scientist roles will be considered for those with multiple postdoc experiences.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, with demonstrated competency in English.
Ability to work in a highly collaborative and fast-paced environment.
Ability to successfully interact with diverse stakeholders including clinicians, basic scientists, and translational researchers.
Ability to multitask and manage multiple ongoing projects simultaneously.
